A passenger at Cochin International Airport was arrested this morning after making an alarming comment during security checks. Manoj Kumar, 42, was scheduled to fly from Kochi to Mumbai on Air India flight AI 682 when he asked a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer if there was a bomb in his bag.

The comment prompted an immediate response from airport authorities, leading to a comprehensive inspection of Kumar’s cabin and checked baggage by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). Fortunately, no explosive threat was discovered. Despite this, Kumar was deboarded and handed over to local police for further questioning. The flight departed as per its schedule, according to a statement from the airport.

Authorities emphasize that remarks about bombs or explosives are taken very seriously and can lead to severe consequences. This incident echoes a similar situation in June, when Shuhaib, 30, from Malappuram, was arrested for making a bomb threat on an Air India flight from Kochi to London Gatwick. Shuhaib had falsely claimed a bomb was on the aircraft in a call to customer service, following a dispute over rescheduling his flight.

In light of upcoming Independence Day celebrations, security measures have been heightened at airports across the region, including Cochin International. Travelers are advised to expect longer processing times and are encouraged to arrive early to ensure a smooth experience.
