Under the leadership of Aditya Ghosh, Akasa Air is gearing up for significant expansion, with plans to become profitable and introduce more international flights in its network. The airline aims to add over 200 aircraft to its fleet within the next 8 years, signaling a strong growth trajectory.
Within a short span of less than two years since its inception, Akasa Air has already established a fleet of 24 planes and boasts a workforce of more than 4,000 employees. Ghosh, known for his tenure as IndiGo’s President and Whole Time Director for ten years until 2018, brings a wealth of experience to Akasa Air’s strategic vision.
In an interview with PTI in the national capital, Ghosh highlighted the evolving landscape of airlines in India, noting a shift towards consumer-focused strategies akin to e-commerce companies. He emphasized the importance of building a financially sustainable business while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
Akasa Air’s performance metrics, including operational reliability, on-time performance, low customer complaints, high load factors, and minimal cancellations, reflect its commitment to delivering a superior flying experience. The airline currently operates a fleet of 24 narrow-body Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The airline’s expansion plans include new routes to destinations like Doha and Jeddah, with future plans to extend services to South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Tier 2, 3, and 4 cities in India. The launch of flights to Jeddah from July 15 and the acquisition of traffic rights for Kuwait and Riyadh demonstrate Akasa Air’s strategic focus on international connectivity.
Ghosh also outlined Akasa Air’s disciplined approach to fleet management, emphasizing the benefits of a single-type fleet for high asset utilization and cost control. The airline has placed a significant order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, signaling its long-term commitment to growth and expansion.
Despite the competitive landscape of the aviation industry, Ghosh remains optimistic about the potential for well-run airlines to thrive without depending on the failure of others. His diverse background, including roles in legal and investment sectors, reflects a holistic approach to business excellence and continuous improvement.
As Akasa Air embarks on its journey towards profitability and international prominence, Ghosh’s leadership and strategic vision are poised to steer the airline towards sustained success and growth in the dynamic aviation market.
