From Mechanical Engineering to Media & Entertainment: The Remarkable Journey of Aditya Kanegaonkar

Remarkable Journey of Aditya Kanegaonkar

Remarkable Journey of Aditya Kanegaonkar

A journey driven by creativity, courage and the willingness to turn every opportunity into a new beginning.

Some journeys are carefully planned. Others simply unfold—one opportunity leading to another, until a profession becomes a passion and a passion becomes an enterprise.

The story of Aditya Kanegaonkar belongs to the second category.

A Mechanical Engineer by profession, Aditya began his career with a conventional seven-year stint in the engineering industry. But somewhere along the way, he discovered that his strongest instinct was not limited to engineering—it was writing and storytelling.

That realization eventually took him from writing poems and articles to the Marathi theatre industry, from theatre to filmmaking and advertising, and eventually to building his own media and entertainment company.

When Writing Became More Than a Hobby

Aditya always had a natural flair for writing. What began with writing articles and poems gradually turned into opportunities to write professionally.

One such opportunity became a turning point—he was given a chance to write a children’s play.

The experience opened an entirely new world for him.

He went on to write two children’s plays, both of which became commercial successes. The response gave him something more valuable than recognition—it gave him the confidence to explore storytelling beyond the written page.

Soon, another opportunity arrived.

He was approached to write an advertisement for a real estate project. Aditya wrote the advertisement, but when a director could not be found for the project, he decided to take the responsibility himself.

He directed the advertisement.

The result was appreciated by audiences and became another important milestone in his creative journey.

Writer. Producer. Director.

Between 2014 and 2016, Aditya entered the Marathi theatre industry in a more comprehensive role.

He not only wrote children’s plays but also produced and directed them himself.

For three consecutive years, he worked as a Writer, Producer and Director, gaining practical experience in every aspect of theatre production.

This phase taught him an important lesson: creativity alone is not enough. A successful project also requires planning, execution, marketing, financial management and the ability to bring different people and talents together.

That understanding would later become the foundation of his entrepreneurial journey.

The Birth of Malhar Films & Entertainments

In 2016, Aditya made a bold decision.

He left his job as an Assistant Production Manager and founded Malhar Films & Entertainments.

The vision was clear—to create a company that could provide comprehensive advertising, media and entertainment solutions to businesses and brands.

The company initially ventured into areas such as radio advertising and multiplex theatre advertising. Aditya also began producing advertising films and documentary films.

As the media landscape evolved, so did the company.

Social media advertising was added to the portfolio, followed by newspaper advertising and outdoor media such as hoardings.

Today, Malhar Films & Entertainments offers a wide range of advertising and media solutions, helping brands communicate with their audiences through a combination of traditional and digital media.

Building Trust Through Brands

Over the years, Aditya has had the opportunity to work on advertising and branding assignments for several established names.

His professional portfolio includes brands and organisations such as Venkys, Fevicol, Prabhat, Bank of India, Sawai Group, Kalashree Properties, Smart Corner Properties, Shree Laxmi Jewellers, Vardhman Jewellers, Sahasrabuddhe Foods and Eduskills, among others.

His work has also brought him opportunities to collaborate with well-known actors and actresses for branding and advertising campaigns, including Spruha Joshi, Prajakta Mali, Prarthana Behere, Bhargavi Chirmule and Amruta Khanvilkar.

For Aditya, these associations are not merely names on a portfolio. Each project represents a different challenge—understanding the brand, identifying its audience and translating its message into communication that people remember.

From a Rented Office to His Own Workplace

Entrepreneurship also meant starting small and growing patiently.

For nearly nine years, Aditya operated from a rented office.

Eventually, after years of building the business, he achieved another personal milestone—moving into his own office on Bajirao Road, Pune.

It was more than a change of address. It represented years of persistence, professional growth and the confidence to build something of his own.

A Growing Presence Across Television and Digital Media

Aditya’s media network has expanded beyond advertising agencies and brands.

Malhar Films & Entertainments has professional tie-ups with several prominent television channels, strengthening the company’s ability to offer integrated media and advertising solutions to its clients.

Alongside his advertising and media work, Aditya has also ventured into digital journalism through his own news portal, Wajir News.

The platform has built a community of more than 40,000 followers and records over one million views per month, reflecting the growing importance of digital-first media and regional-language content.

From Media to Hospitality

Entrepreneurship, however, did not stop with media.

About a year ago, Aditya took another significant step by entering the hospitality industry with Malhar Kunja Konkan Homestay in Dapoli, Konkan.

The move into hospitality represents another dimension of his entrepreneurial vision—creating experiences rather than simply communicating them.

For someone whose professional journey began in Mechanical Engineering, the transition may appear unexpected.

But for Aditya, there is a common thread connecting everything he has done: the desire to create something meaningful from an opportunity.

What Lies Ahead

Despite everything he has accomplished so far, Aditya’s creative journey is far from over.

He plans to write a Marathi novel in the future and has another ambitious dream—to direct a Marathi feature film.

Perhaps it is a natural progression.

The engineer who discovered a passion for writing became a playwright.

The playwright became a producer and director.

The director entered advertising and media.

The media professional became an entrepreneur.

And the entrepreneur is now exploring hospitality while continuing to dream about literature and cinema.

A Journey Still Being Written

Aditya Kanegaonkar’s story is ultimately not about leaving one career and choosing another.

It is about recognizing one’s abilities, having the courage to experiment and refusing to remain confined to a single definition of success.

From engineering to theatre, from theatre to advertising, from advertising to media, and now into hospitality—the journey reflects a personality that sees possibility where others may see uncertainty.

And perhaps the most interesting chapter is still waiting to be written.

Because the next story Aditya wants to tell may not be for a brand, a theatre audience or a digital platform.

It may be his own Marathi novel.

Or perhaps, one day soon, it will unfold on the big screen.
