Thierry Delaporte, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Wipro, has made headlines as the highest paid CEO in India, as revealed by the company’s filings for the fiscal year 2023. With an impressive salary package, Delaporte’s compensation eclipses that of prominent executives in the Indian IT sector.
In the landscape of India’s flourishing IT industry, Delaporte’s salary package of over ₹82 crore per annum positions him as the leader among CEOs in this sector. This places him significantly ahead of other notable figures like Salil Parekh, CEO of Infosys, who secured a compensation of ₹56.45 crore, and CP Gurnani, CEO of Tech Mahindra, with a total compensation of ₹30 crore for the same fiscal year. Former TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinath also garnered over ₹29 crore in FY23.
However, not confined to the IT realm, the list of high-earning executives extends to the startup sector. Zerodha founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath took home a striking ₹72 crore each this year, positioning them as the highest paid CEO and director of a startup firm. Nonetheless, Nithin Kamath clarified that their actual take-home salary is notably lower than their officially reported compensation.
Thierry Delaporte, aged 56 and hailing from France, has amassed over three decades of experience in the global IT sector. Before assuming his current role at Wipro, Delaporte served as the Chief Operating Officer at Capgemini, a prominent French IT firm. His tenure at Wipro, which began in July 2020, has seen significant growth for the company, now valued at over ₹93,400 crore.
Wipro, founded by Mohamed Premji in 1945, underwent a transition following the untimely demise of its founder. The company came under the leadership of Indian billionaire and philanthropist Azim Premji, who continues to serve as a non-executive member of the board.
Delaporte’s substantial compensation underscores the growing significance and financial rewards associated with leadership roles in India’s IT sector, solidifying his position as a key figure in steering Wipro’s trajectory within the competitive landscape of technology and business.
The remarkable growth and success of Wipro under Delaporte’s leadership signal a promising future for the company within India’s dynamic tech industry, further highlighting the pivotal role played by CEOs in shaping the country’s corporate landscape.
