The ambitious project, reported by Bloomberg, reveals Tata’s initiative to establish a sprawling iPhone manufacturing hub in Hosur, a move anticipated to generate employment for over 50,000 individuals within two years. This state-of-the-art facility is projected to feature more than 20 assembly lines, aiming for operational readiness within 12-18 months.
This strategic development signifies a significant leap for Apple’s localized supply chain, enhancing collaboration with Tata. This venture comes on the heels of Tata’s acquisition of an iPhone assembly plant from Wistron in Karnataka. The forthcoming Tamil Nadu site is poised to surpass the production rates of the existing Karnataka facility, promising a substantial surge in iPhone output.
The establishment of the Tamil Nadu plant, anticipated to commence operations by late 2024, could potentially drive down the cost of Apple smartphones due to increased local manufacturing.
