Although Zomato has not officially launched this feature or made a public announcement, reports indicate that the company will provide updates soon. Alongside the potential faster delivery option, Zomato has also increased its platform fee by 25%, adding ₹5 to each order, up from ₹2 in August 2023. This fee affects customers in major cities like Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, and Bengaluru, and is charged regardless of the order amount, including for Zomato Gold members.
This shift in pricing strategy comes as Zomato seeks to adjust its revenue model and enhance profitability. Its main competitor, Swiggy, also charges a platform fee ranging from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10.
In addition to pricing changes, Zomato is revamping its intercity delivery service, Legends, which was launched in 2022. Legends initially offered next-day meal delivery but faced challenges when its delivery mechanism for pre-stocked goods was altered, leading to legal issues over breached claims. Zomato is now working on expanding Legends to include longer-distance deliveries within cities and possibly even internationally.
These developments highlight Zomato’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve its services in a competitive food delivery market. Customers can expect to see updates on faster delivery options and improvements to the Legends service as Zomato continues to evolve its offerings.
