A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to an Ola Electric showroom in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, after being dissatisfied with the servicing of his recently purchased e-scooter, police reported on Wednesday. The incident highlights increasing customer frustration over servicing issues at Ola Electric, India’s leading e-scooter manufacturer.

The arrested man, Mohammad Nadeem, a mechanic by profession, bought the e-scooter last month but began facing technical issues shortly after. Nadeem repeatedly visited the showroom for servicing, but unsatisfactory responses from the service centre pushed him to an extreme reaction on Tuesday. According to the police, Nadeem carried petrol to the showroom and set six scooters on fire in a fit of rage.

“The response to his servicing requests was poor. After multiple failed attempts to get the issue resolved, he resorted to setting fire to six bikes at the showroom,” said Sharanappa S.D., the Kalaburagi Police Commissioner. No injuries were reported, but the fire caused damage estimated at ₹850,000.

Ola Electric, which recently went public, has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the incident. The company’s service centres have reportedly been facing a significant backlog, with mechanics struggling to manage the high volume of customer complaints.

This incident comes at a time when Ola Electric is under increased scrutiny due to mounting complaints about its servicing network. Despite its position as India’s top e-scooter maker, the company is reportedly struggling to handle the demand at its 431 service stations across the country.
