In a troubling incident just days before its official launch, the Vande Bharat Express train was targeted with stones during a trial run in Chhattisgarh. Scheduled to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, the train faced this act of vandalism while at Bagbahara railway station.

The incident occurred on Friday morning as the train, en route from Visakhapatnam, was returning to Durg. Officials reported that the stones were thrown at the multi-layered windows of three coaches, causing significant damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the attack.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. They have been charged under the Railways Act, 1989. The accused, all residents of Bagbahara, are facing legal consequences for their actions.

The Vande Bharat Express, which will operate between Chhattisgarh’s Durg and Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam, is part of a broader initiative that also includes the launch of India’s first Vande Metro and a 20-coach Vande Bharat train from Gujarat to Delhi. The launches are set to be part of a major event presided over by PM Modi, highlighting the government’s push towards modernizing India’s railway infrastructure.
