The monthly reports released by WhatsApp detail the company’s response to grievances and violations in accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. These reports encompass actions taken based on user complaints, preventive measures, and detection methods to address violations of Indian laws or WhatsApp’s Terms of Service.
According to the data, WhatsApp banned 7,954,000 accounts in India between March 1 and 31 alone. The cumulative bans from January to November 2023 reached a staggering 69,307,254 accounts. These bans were attributed to various violations, including fraudulent activities and violations of WhatsApp’s Terms of Service.
The platform has also highlighted its proactive measures, with over 2 crore accounts being banned before receiving any user reports. This proactive approach aims to maintain a safe and secure environment for users in India.
WhatsApp’s monthly reports also reveal a significant number of grievances received from users, totaling over 79,000 between January and November 2023. These grievances cover a range of issues, including account support, ban appeals, product support, and safety concerns. In response to user complaints, WhatsApp took action against 2,398 accounts, emphasizing its commitment to addressing user concerns and maintaining platform integrity.
