“RBI Approves Dipak Gupta’s Interim Leadership at Kotak Mahindra Bank”

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted approval for the appointment of Dipak Gupta as the interim Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kotak Mahindra Bank. In this capacity, Gupta will helm the bank for a duration of two months, holding a pivotal role that encompasses various critical functions.

Dipak Gupta is known for his multifaceted contributions to Kotak Mahindra Bank, where he holds key positions as the head of IT, cyber security, customer experience, and business intelligence. His extensive experience within the bank includes serving as the Joint Managing Director.

Gupta’s association with Kotak dates back to 1999 when he assumed the role of Executive Director at Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd (KMFL). He played a significant role in shaping the bank’s retail business, even before Kotak obtained its banking license in 2003.

Educationally, Dipak Gupta holds an engineering degree in electronics from Banaras Hindu University, which he earned in 1983. He subsequently pursued a post-graduate diploma in management from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad in 1985.

The announcement of Dipak Gupta’s interim appointment comes after Kotak Mahindra Bank informed the stock exchanges on September 2 that Uday Kotak, the current Managing Director and CEO, had resigned from his role ahead of his term’s scheduled conclusion by the end of 2023. This transition signifies a pivotal moment for the bank as it prepares to navigate its future course under new leadership.
