Ola has responded to the recent e-scooter fire incident in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, by attributing the blaze to the use of an “aftermarket part.” The ride-sharing and electric vehicle company emphasized the need for using genuine spare parts to ensure safety.

The incident, which occurred on October 28, involved an Ola two-wheeler catching fire in the parking lot of DY Patil College. A video of the incident, depicting heavy smoke billowing from the Ola scooter while the fire brigade worked to extinguish it, went viral on social media. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) fire brigade classified the incident as a battery fire.

In its official statement, Ola explained, “We have received a report of an incident with one of our scooters in Pune on October 28. The customer is safe and unharmed. Our investigation has revealed that aftermarket parts used in the scooter led to a short circuit which resulted in the incident. Our findings have further confirmed that the battery of the vehicle is intact and functional.”

Ola, known for prioritizing safety, reiterated its commitment to stringent vehicle safety and quality standards. The company urged its customers to exclusively use genuine spare parts and accessories for all service requirements. Ola encouraged customers to reach out online or visit the nearest Ola Experience Centre for support.

This is not the first time an Ola scooter has caught fire in Pune. In March 2022, another incident involving an Ola S1 Pro scooter was reported in the Dhanori area of the city.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of using authentic and approved parts for electric vehicles to prevent safety hazards and ensure the reliability of the vehicle’s components.
