In a recent development, a two-hectare plot of land in Kotana village, Baghpat’s Baraut tehsil, has been auctioned for ₹1.38 crore. The land, previously classified as enemy property, was linked to former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, officials confirmed on Friday.

The property was declared enemy property in 2010, a designation applied to assets owned by Pakistani nationals in India. The Custodian of Enemy Property, a department under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), manages such assets. Musharraf, a former military chief who came to power in Pakistan through a coup in 1999, passed away in 2023. Despite his connections to India through his family’s origins, Musharraf himself never resided in the village.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amar Verma clarified that Musharraf’s grandfather was a resident of Kotana, though Musharraf’s immediate family members did not live in the village. The auction of this land, initially valued at ₹39.06 lakh, concluded on Thursday night with the final bid exceeding ₹1.38 crore. The funds from the sale will be deposited into the MHA’s account.

Additional District Magistrate Pankaj Verma explained that the land, recorded under the name “Nuru” in revenue documents, had been officially declared as enemy property and auctioned in accordance with government regulations. The land, situated about eight kilometers from Baraut tehsil, is not classified as residential.
