“Gujarat Teams Up with IBM to Launch AI Hub at GIFT City”
In a significant move towards fostering technological innovation, the Gujarat government has joined hands with IBM to establish an AI Cluster at Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Saturday, aims to leverage IBM’s advanced technologies, including Watson AI, to propel digital transformation in the financial sector.
In a significant move towards fostering technological innovation, the Gujarat government has joined hands with IBM to establish an AI Cluster at Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Saturday, aims to leverage IBM’s advanced technologies, including Watson AI, to propel digital transformation in the financial sector.
Under the MoU, financial institutions operating within GIFT City will benefit from access to IBM’s AI Sandbox, which facilitates the customization and testing of large language AI models. The initiative also includes support for proof of concept projects, AI literacy programs, and the development of Digital Assistant Solutions tailored for financial services.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration, stating, “This MoU with IBM will help Gujarat lead the nation in adopting AI technologies and driving digital innovation.”
IBM’s Managing Director for India & South Asia, Sandip Patel, emphasized the business advantages of AI adoption, noting, “Using AI for business is a strategic priority for enterprises today to gain competitive advantage through better productivity, innovation, and customer experience.”
As part of its commitment to enhancing skills in AI, IBM will develop an AI curriculum for schools and universities across Gujarat. This initiative aligns with IBM’s broader goal to skill 30 million individuals by 2030, with a specific target of training 2 million learners in AI by the end of 2026.
Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of Gujarat’s Department of Science and Technology, underscored the MoU’s comprehensive approach, stating, “These agreements are detailed, aiming to accelerate AI adoption across MSMEs and bring futuristic technologies to the forefront.”
The collaboration also includes initiatives to provide AI literacy programs and certifications for professionals, enhancing the skill sets necessary for Gujarat’s workforce to thrive in an AI-driven economy.
The establishment of the AI Cluster at GIFT City marks a pivotal step towards positioning Gujarat as a hub for technological innovation and digital transformation in the financial sector, leveraging IBM’s expertise to propel the state into a new era of technological advancement.
