Tesla chief Elon Musk has announced the postponement of his planned visit to India, citing “very heavy Tesla obligations” that require his immediate attention. Musk’s visit, which was anticipated to include meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the announcement of investment plans for Tesla and SpaceX, has been delayed, with Musk expressing his eagerness to visit India later this year.

In a statement, Musk confirmed the delay, stating, “Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year.” His visit was highly anticipated after he expressed excitement about meeting Prime Minister Modi and reiterated Tesla’s commitment to enter the Indian market at the earliest opportunity.

Musk’s visit was expected to include significant announcements regarding Tesla’s investment plans in India, potentially amounting to $2-3 billion. This visit was seen as a crucial moment for Tesla’s expansion into new markets, especially amid a slowdown in sales in the US and China.

Additionally, Musk’s satellite internet operator, Starlink, was also anticipated to make progress during the visit, with reports suggesting initial approvals for its operations in India. This development aligns with recent changes in India’s foreign direct investment policy in the space sector, aimed at attracting offshore investors and liberalizing entry routes for foreign companies in Indian ventures.
