The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has unveiled a new mobile app, Sanchar Saathi, aimed at tackling the growing concern of fraudulent communications. Launched on January 17, 2025, the app enables users to easily report suspected fraud incidents directly from their mobile phone call logs.
The launch of the Sanchar Saathi app follows the successful introduction of the Sanchar Saathi portal in 2023, which also focused on addressing fraud. The mobile app, available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, is designed to provide a more convenient and user-friendly platform for individuals to flag any suspicious calls or messages they receive.
Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that the Sanchar Saathi initiative aims to create “a safe and secure environment” for mobile phone users by ensuring the protection of their privacy and security. He emphasized that the app plays a crucial role in empowering consumers to take action against fraud, contributing to a safer digital space for all.
Alongside the Sanchar Saathi app, the minister also introduced two additional initiatives: the ‘Vision for National Broadband Mission 2.0’ and the introduction of Intra-circle roaming at ‘Digital Bharat Nidhi’ funded 4G mobile sites. These measures are part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance digital infrastructure and communication services across the country.
The launch of the Sanchar Saathi app marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing mission to combat telecom fraud and strengthen the security of mobile networks. With the increasing prevalence of scam calls and messages, the app’s accessibility and user-friendly interface are expected to make reporting fraud simpler and more efficient for millions of mobile users across India.
