In a light-hearted but timely incident, a Delhi man’s request for extra onions with his food order on Swiggy has led to a viral moment and a surprise flash sale by Swiggy Instamart. The man, feeling the pinch of soaring onion prices, pleaded with the restaurant to send additional onions, stating that they were too expensive to buy on his own.

The order request, shared by the man’s flatmate on Reddit, quickly went viral, with the screenshot showing the customer’s heartfelt plea: “Bhaiyya, please send round cut onions. Onions bahut costly hai, I can’t buy. Please send onions bhaiyya thoda,” (Onions are very expensive, I can’t buy. Please send some onions). The post caught the attention of Swiggy co-founder Phani Kishan Addepalli, who found the request both relatable and amusing.

In response, Addepalli took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing the post and announcing a flash sale to help alleviate the onion woes of Delhi residents. Swiggy Instamart launched the sale, offering onions at ₹39 per kilogram for one hour, from 7 PM to 8 PM on November 28, 2024, for users in the Delhi-NCR region.

“Came across this post about a Swiggy customer trying to save on the rising price of onions by asking the restaurant to send some extra onions. We feel your pain and though we can’t change the prices – just for you, we’re launching a flash sale today! Onions at ₹39 in Delhi NCR from 7-8pm. Stock up before we stock out,” Addepalli posted.

The flash sale was a response to the ongoing onion price surge, which has been causing a strain on household budgets across the country. The moment also brought a touch of humor to an otherwise challenging issue for many families struggling with rising vegetable costs.

With the flash sale receiving much attention, the initiative not only provided relief to consumers but also brought a smile to many, highlighting how a simple request can spark a larger conversation about rising food costs and innovative solutions in today’s digital economy.
