In a disheartening turn of events, a customer who participated in Flipkart’s Republic Day Sale recently ordered a high-end Asus laptop worth ₹1.1 lakh, only to receive an ‘old discarded’ laptop instead. This incident comes on the heels of a similar case involving a defective iPhone 15 received during the same sale, raising concerns about product quality and fulfillment by the popular online marketplace.
The aggrieved customer, identified as Souro Mukherjee, took to social media to share his disappointment. Mukherjee posted an unboxing video on Twitter, showcasing the moment when the delivery agent unveiled the package at his home. To his shock, the laptop inside not only had the wrong color but also appeared to be a used model.
Expressing his frustration, Mukherjee tweeted, “I ordered a brand new Asus Laptop from Flipkart in this Republic Day sale, and I received some old discarded laptop. Never trust products ordered from online platforms.”
Flipkart responded promptly to the incident, apologizing for the mishap and assuring Mukherjee that they would investigate and resolve the issue. In a tweet, Flipkart stated, “We’d never want you to get anything but what you ordered and are extremely sorry about this instance. You can count on us to sort this out. Please help us with the order details so that we can look into it and assist you further. Awaiting your response.”
In subsequent comments, Flipkart urged Mukherjee to share order details privately to ensure data security. They also cautioned customers against responding to fake social media handles impersonating the brand to safeguard their interactions.
The tweet, shared on January 14, has garnered over 7,900 views, with users expressing their own frustrations and concerns about online shopping experiences. Some users shared their own encounters with similar issues, reinforcing the need for vigilance when making online purchases.
One user commented, “I have long stopped ordering from Flipkart. It is safe to spend the additional 2k-3k and buy it from authorized sellers. Considering the poor customer support, it’s better to go offline.”
Another user called for legal action against such sellers, stating, “There has to be some legal action that can be taken against these kinds of sellers!”
This incident highlights the challenges faced by online platforms in ensuring the quality and authenticity of products, prompting users to reconsider their reliance on e-commerce platforms and explore alternative purchasing options.
