Bengaluru is poised to witness a significant infrastructure milestone today as Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, inaugurates South India’s first double-decker flyover. Anticipated to alleviate traffic woes around the Silkboard junction, the 3.36 km-long flyover stretches from Ragigudda metro station to Silkboard junction.

Here are five key highlights about this groundbreaking project:

  1. Innovative Design: This dual-tier flyover integrates road and metro components, featuring five ramps to streamline traffic flow. While three ramps are already operational, connecting Ragigudda metro station to key areas like Hosur Road, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout, two ramps are currently under construction.
  2. Length and Connectivity: Spanning 3.36 km, the flyover promises to enhance connectivity across Bengaluru. It not only aims to ease congestion at Silkboard junction but also integrates with the upcoming Yellow Line metro, set to commence operations by December this year under the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
  3. Traffic Decongestion: Operational ramps such as Ramp A (Ragigudda metro station to Hosur Road), Ramp B (HSR Layout), and Ramp C (BTM Layout to Hosur Road and HSR Layout) are expected to divert significant vehicular traffic away from Silkboard junction. This strategic rerouting aims to resolve longstanding traffic issues that have plagued the area for over a decade.
  4. Impact on Commuters: Commuters traveling to destinations like Hosur Road, BTM Layout, HSR Layout, and Ragigudda can expect substantial time savings—approximately 30-40 minutes—by bypassing Silkboard junction. This improvement is set to redefine daily commuting experiences for thousands of Bengalureans.
  5. Future Plans: The completion of the remaining two ramps by May 2025 marks a pivotal step towards realizing the full potential of the double-decker flyover. Designed as a game-changer for both commuters and businesses operating along this critical corridor, the project underscores Bengaluru’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility.

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 3 pm today, signals the culmination of extensive planning and construction efforts aimed at transforming Bengaluru’s traffic landscape. As the city prepares to embrace this new infrastructure marvel, expectations are high for its positive impact on daily travel and economic activities in the region.
