In a momentous event, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia officially inaugurated Air India’s first Airbus A350 aircraft, marking a significant milestone for the national carrier. This state-of-the-art wide-body aircraft, registered as VT-JRA, is the inaugural unit of Air India’s ambitious order for 20 Airbus A350-900s, with five more slated for delivery by March 2024.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, expressed pride in the achievement, highlighting that Air India is the first airline in the country to incorporate the Airbus A350 into its fleet. The aircraft is poised to enter commercial service on January 22, 2024, initially operating on domestic routes for crew familiarization. The selected routes include flights to and from Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

The spokesperson for Air India revealed that the A350 will subsequently be deployed on international routes by mid-2024. Equipped with powerful and fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, the Airbus A350 promises optimal performance, environmental benefits, and superior passenger comfort, particularly for long-haul flights.

The A350-900, configured with 316 seats in a three-class cabin layout, offers a luxurious and comfortable travel experience. The business class features 28 private suites arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, each boasting direct aisle access and sliding privacy doors. The exclusive Premium Economy cabin accommodates 24 wide seats in a 2-4-2 configuration, providing a spacious and enhanced journey for passengers.

Air India also announced that the introduction of the A350 to its fleet will bring a wave of upgrades for passengers. New amenity kits, refreshed bed linens, and new chinaware and glassware will enhance the in-flight experience. These improvements are expected to be visible on international flights starting mid-2024, with a significant portion of these flights operated by wide-body aircraft, including A350s, B777s, and B787s.

The rollout of these enhancements aligns with Air India’s commitment to providing world-class services and maintaining its position as a leading player in the aviation industry. As the first Airbus A350 takes to the skies, Air India embarks on a new era of modernization and passenger-centric travel, solidifying its standing as a key player in the global aviation landscape.
