In response to the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, Air India has announced that it will operate its evening flights AI237 and AI238 on the Delhi-Dhaka-Delhi route on Tuesday. The airline is also offering a one-time waiver for rescheduling flights for customers with confirmed bookings.
Air India stated, “Due to the prevailing situation in Dhaka, Air India is offering a one-time waiver on rescheduling for customers with confirmed bookings on any Air India flight to and from Dhaka between August 4th and 7th, 2024, should they wish to do so.” The waiver applies to tickets booked on or before August 5th. The airline emphasized that the safety of its customers and crew remains a top priority.
The announcement comes in the wake of severe unrest in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule has ended amid violent protests. Hasina fled the country following intense demonstrations and a crackdown on dissent that resulted in nearly 100 deaths. The military has announced plans to form an interim government.
External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar addressed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, stating that India is in regular contact with Bangladeshi authorities regarding the situation. Jaishankar requested the House’s understanding and support for India’s approach to managing relations with its neighbor during this period of crisis.
