“₹850 Crore Legal Notice Served to Navjot Singh Sidhu’s Wife Over Cancer Treatment Claims: Report”
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the wife of Congress leader and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, has received an ₹850 crore legal notice from the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS) following her husband’s controversial claims about her recovery from Stage 4 cancer. The notice was issued after Sidhu’s remarks about “traditional remedies” raised concerns about public health and the impact of misinformation.
Sidhu had previously claimed that his wife’s battle with cancer was won through non-conventional treatments, despite medical experts giving her only 40 days to live. He emphasized that the cure involved cutting out sugar, wheat, and dairy products, as well as a strict diet and Ayurvedic remedies, which he believes starved cancer cells and led to her recovery. His statement, made at a press conference on November 21, included claims that cancer was essentially caused by “inflammation,” which he attributed to foods like sugar, maida (refined flour), and aerated drinks. Sidhu also suggested that a diet without sugar and carbohydrates would cause cancer cells to die naturally.
However, these remarks have sparked widespread controversy, with medical professionals expressing concern about the misleading nature of such claims. Dr. C.S. Pramesh, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, along with 262 oncologists from the institution, released a statement refuting Sidhu’s assertions. The statement emphasized that there was no scientific evidence to support the idea that cutting sugar or dairy could cure cancer, nor that turmeric or neem could have such miraculous effects on an incurable disease. The oncologists stated that such unproven claims could be dangerous and misleading for cancer patients.
In response to the notice, Dr. Kuldeep Solanki, convenor of the Chhattisgarh Civil Society, stated that Sidhu’s claims were harmful, as they were causing cancer patients to abandon their prescribed treatments. He argued that misinformation of this nature was putting lives at risk, and demanded that Navjot Kaur Sidhu provide proof to support her husband’s statements within a week or face legal consequences. The CCS has also requested that Sidhu hold a press conference to clarify his claims and provide any relevant medical records.
Sidhu, in his defense, clarified his comments on social media. In a statement posted on X, he emphasized that he trusted doctors and acknowledged that any treatments pursued were in consultation with medical professionals. He also reiterated his belief that his wife’s recovery was a result of a collaborative approach involving both traditional and modern medical practices.
Despite Sidhu’s clarification, the controversy continues to unfold, with many questioning the potential harm such claims could do to the trust placed in conventional medicine. The legal notice and the public debate over the statements are expected to bring further scrutiny to the issue, as both medical experts and civil society groups advocate for accurate and responsible communication regarding health-related matters.
