Zomato has expanded its portfolio with the launch of its latest app, District, designed to enhance dining and entertainment experiences. The app, which is available for both iOS and Android users, marks the company’s venture into a third major segment after food delivery (Zomato) and quick-commerce (Blinkit).

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, in a Q1FY25 shareholder letter, highlighted the app’s potential to revolutionize the dining-out and entertainment sectors. Here’s what you need to know about the District app:

Key Features of the District App

  1. Availability Across Platforms: The app can be downloaded on both iOS and Android devices, catering to a wide user base.
  2. Multiple Use Cases: Users can book tickets for various events, including movies, sports, live performances, shopping, and staycations.
  3. Development in Progress: Some features of the app are already operational, while others are under development, as mentioned by Goyal.
  4. A One-Stop Destination: Goyal described the app as a “game-changer” that will serve as a unified platform for planning outings and events.
  5. Competing with BookMyShow: The app enters a market currently dominated by Reliance-backed BookMyShow, India’s first ticketing aggregator launched in 2007.

Zomato’s dining-out business, which already boasts a run rate of over $500 million in annualized Gross Order Value (GOV), continues to be profitable. With the launch of District, Zomato aims to further strengthen its position as a comprehensive platform for both at-home and out-of-home consumer needs.

This move signals Zomato’s intention to diversify its offerings, positioning the District app as a competitor in the event ticketing space while expanding its footprint in the dining and entertainment sectors.
