The name “Eternal” reflects the company’s broader scope as it integrates four major business verticals. These include its original food delivery business under the Zomato brand, the quick-commerce unit Blinkit, live events business District, and the kitchen supplies unit Hyperpure.
Deepinder Goyal, Zomato’s founder, explained the rationale behind the rebranding in a letter to shareholders. “We thought of publicly renaming the company when something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future,” Goyal wrote. He emphasized that with Blinkit now playing a pivotal role in the company’s growth, the time was right for the change. “Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are here,” Goyal said.
The rebranding reflects the company’s strategic pivot towards quick-commerce, a sector that has gained immense traction in India, especially after Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit in mid-2022. Initially met with skepticism by investors, the move has since proven successful, as Blinkit and Swiggy’s Instamart have revolutionized the way Indians shop, prompting competitors like Reliance’s JioMart and Amazon’s Indian arm to launch their own quick-commerce services.
The rebranding to “Eternal” positions the company to embrace new growth opportunities in these evolving sectors, with Blinkit emerging as a key driver. By broadening its focus beyond food delivery, Eternal aims to solidify its presence in multiple consumer-centric industries.
