Universal Studios is set to make its India debut with the launch of its first-ever theme park in the country, in collaboration with Bharti Real Estate, according to a report by The Economic Times. The amusement park will be an indoor facility located inside what is projected to be India’s largest mall, currently under development near Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The project is being led by Bharti Real Estate, a subsidiary of Sunil Mittal’s Bharti Enterprises, which plans to lease out approximately 300,000 square feet of the upcoming 3-million-square-foot mall to house the Universal Studios-branded theme park. The mall is expected to be operational by mid-2027 and will be located in Delhi Aerocity, a rapidly growing commercial hub adjacent to the airport.

“We have earmarked 10% of the total leasable area for a global entertainment park,” said SK Sayal, Chief Executive of Bharti Real Estate. While Sayal confirmed discussions with international partners are underway, he declined to provide further details on the status of negotiations. Universal Studios has not yet commented publicly on the development.

The larger Bharti project at Aerocity reportedly has a development potential of 17 million square feet, setting the stage for a major transformation of the area into a multi-use global destination.

In a related development, the Delhi government in November approved 24/7 operations for restaurants and bars in Aerocity, signaling a push to enhance the city’s appeal to both tourists and business travelers. The move has been welcomed by hospitality industry leaders, who see extended hours as a significant boost for the capital’s nightlife and late-night economy.

Umang Tewari, founder of Liv Bar, said the initiative benefits “late-night travellers and corporate employees working late shifts,” adding that it “elevates India’s nightlife standards.”

Universal Studios’ entry into the Indian market marks a major milestone for the country’s entertainment and tourism sectors, as global theme park operators begin to tap into India’s growing middle class and expanding leisure economy.
