Teenager Killed, Two Hurt After Unexploded Bomb Detonates at Army Firing Range
Datia, Madhya Pradesh: A 17-year-old boy lost his life, and two others sustained serious injuries after an unexploded hand grenade detonated at the Army’s firing range in Jaitpur village, Datia district, on Friday.

According to police, the victims had entered the restricted firing range illegally to collect metal scrap when the incident occurred. The deceased has been identified as Gangaram Adivasi, while the injured, Ramu Adivasi (23) and Manoj Adivasi (16), have been admitted to Jhansi Medical College in critical condition.
Grenade Exploded While Extracting Scrap Metal
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sunil Shivahare stated that the Army regularly conducts training exercises at the Jaitpur firing range under Basai police station. The three villagers had entered the area to collect valuable scrap metal from spent ammunition.
“During their search, Gangaram found a hand grenade that had failed to detonate during an earlier training session. As he attempted to extract metal from it, the grenade exploded in his hands,” ASP Shivahare explained.
Local villagers revealed that Gangaram used to earn money by selling metal scrap sourced from military debris in the area. Though explosions had been reported previously, this was the first fatality.
Investigation Underway
Police have launched an investigation into how the villagers gained unauthorized access to the restricted Army range. Authorities have also warned locals against venturing into the high-risk area to prevent further casualties.
