TCS Takes Action in Bribery Scandal: Six Employees Sacked, Six Staffing Firms Banned

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the renowned IT giant, has made significant moves in response to a recruitment scam that has sent shockwaves through the tech industry. The company has reportedly terminated the employment of six individuals and imposed a ban on six staffing firms allegedly involved in the fraudulent activities.

During the company’s annual general meeting, N Chandrasekaran, the chairperson of Tata Sons, confirmed that three employees are currently under investigation for their alleged roles in receiving favors from staffing firms in the appointment of contractual workers. Chandrasekaran emphasized that TCS is committed to ethical conduct and will not tolerate any deviations from its high standards.

The recruitment scam came to light after TCS received separate complaints regarding the appointment of contractual workers in the United States and India. While Chandrasekaran did not disclose specific details about the employees being investigated, he acknowledged that their conduct was not in line with the company’s ethical guidelines.

Chandrasekaran also addressed concerns raised by shareholders, stating that approximately two to three percent of TCS resources are associated with staffing firms. Currently, there are around 1,000 such firms working with TCS across 55 countries. He highlighted the need for a thorough review of the business associate supplier management process to identify any weaknesses and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Although the exact nature and value of the favors received by the guilty employees have not been quantified, it is believed that their actions exhibited favoritism towards specific firms. Reports had previously suggested that the scam could be valued at around ₹100 crore.

In response to the scandal, TCS aims to strengthen its selection process and tighten control over business associates to ensure such misconduct does not recur. The company is committed to upholding its reputation and maintaining the highest level of integrity in its operations.

As the investigation unfolds, TCS is taking decisive action to address the bribery scandal and reaffirm its commitment to ethical conduct within the organization.
