Tirupati, the renowned pilgrim city, is set to add another major attraction to its list with the introduction of a 7-star hotel facility by the esteemed Oberoi Group. This forthcoming hotel will be the first of its kind in Tirupati, which already boasts three 5-star hotels. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will virtually lay the foundation stone and unveil the plaque for the proposed hotel during a ceremony from Gandikota in Kadapa district on Sunday.

In a significant move to bolster the tourism sector in Tirupati, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department has allocated 20 acres of land on a 90-year lease to the Oberoi Group. The allotted land, located on Alipiri – Zoo Park road at survey number 604/9 in Peruru village of Tirupati rural mandal, aims to facilitate the development of Oberoi resorts. Dr. Ramana Prasad, the Regional Director of the Tourism Department, mentioned that the Oberoi Group plans to invest Rs 250 crore in the project, creating employment opportunities for approximately 1,500 individuals.

The upcoming resort will offer an array of 7-star facilities, making it an exceptional destination to attract domestic and international tourists. Under the tourism policy for the years 2020-2025, the government has adopted a public-private partnership approach to undertake various initiatives. With private players displaying interest in establishing resorts on a large scale, the land has been allocated to Oberoi Group on a lease rental basis.

The Tourism Department possesses 50 acres of land on Alipiri – Zoo Park road, out of which 7.37 acres have been earmarked as a buffer zone for the zoo park, and Devalok Constructions holds 10.32 acres. The remaining land, amounting to 20 acres, has been transferred to the Oberoi Group of Hotels. In January of this year, the hotel representatives were shown the boundaries of the allotted land, and an agreement was exchanged between Tourism Department MD Kanna Babu and Oberoi Hotels Corporate President Rajaraman Sankar. Notably, the Oberoi Group has been implementing projects at five locations in the state, with Tirupati being one of them.

On the occasion of the virtual stone-laying ceremony, Joint Collector DK Balaji inspected the site and oversaw the preparations, providing necessary instructions to the officials. DRO Kodandarami Reddy, Tourism RD Ramana Prasad, DIPRO Balakondaiah, APTDC Divisional Manager M Giridhar Reddy, Tourism Officer Rupendranath Reddy, and other officials were present during the visit.

The introduction of the Oberoi Group’s 7-star hotel in Tirupati is poised to contribute significantly to the growth of the city’s tourism sector. It will enhance the hospitality offerings, attract discerning travelers, and further establish Tirupati as a prominent destination for pilgrims and tourists alike.
