An incident in Gujarat’s Bharuch district has drawn widespread attention after a steel railing collapsed during a chaotic rush of 1,800 job aspirants attempting to secure just 10 positions at a private company. The event occurred during an open interview session held at the Lords Plaza Hotel in Ankleshwar, organized by an engineering firm based in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation complex in Jhagadia.

Videos of the chaotic scene depict hundreds of hopefuls jostling to enter the venue, resulting in immense pressure on a steel railing that eventually gave way. Fortunately, despite the railing collapse, no serious injuries were reported as it was only a short fall from the ground.

The incident has sparked political controversy, with the Congress party criticizing the BJP-led government over what it perceives as a failure of the Gujarat model and proof of escalating unemployment. In contrast, BJP MP from Bharuch, Mansukh Vasava, placed blame on the organizing company, emphasizing that such incidents could have been prevented with better planning and clearer criteria for the job selection process.

“Hundreds gathered, jostling to make their way inside the venue, and the crowd was so dense that it pushed against a steel railing hard enough to make it give way, taking several people down with it,” the BJP MP stated in Hindi, expressing concerns over the safety and organization of such events.
