According to a report by the South China Morning Post, Hori has trained his body and mind to function effectively on minimal sleep. An entrepreneur with interests in music, painting, and mechanical design, Hori began experimenting with reducing his sleep hours more than a decade ago to extend his productive waking hours. Over the years, he has gradually cut his sleep down to a mere 30 to 45 minutes per day.
Hori attributes his ability to function with such little sleep to a combination of physical activity and caffeine consumption. “As long as you do sports or drink coffee an hour before eating, you can stave off drowsiness,” he asserts.
The reality show Will You Go With Me? recently featured Hori, showcasing his extraordinary sleep pattern. The show documented Hori sleeping for just 26 minutes before awakening with energy, promptly heading to the gym. Hori believes that high-quality sleep, even if brief, can be more beneficial than longer periods of sleep for maintaining focus and productivity. He draws parallels with professions such as doctors and firefighters, who often work with limited rest but maintain high efficiency.
Hori’s approach has also influenced others. His online resume boasts of training over 2,100 students to adopt similar ‘ultra-short sleeping’ techniques. One of his students reported reducing her sleep from eight hours to just 90 minutes after Hori’s training.
