The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website faced a significant outage on Monday morning, leaving many users frustrated as they were unable to access its e-ticketing services. The website was down for approximately one hour due to “maintenance activity,” which disrupted online bookings, cancellations, and Tatkal ticket services.

When users attempted to log onto the website, they were greeted with a message informing them of the downtime, which read, “Due to maintenance activity, e-ticketing service will not be available for the next one hour. Please try later.” The message also provided alternate contact details for users needing assistance with cancellations or filing Ticket Deposit Receipts (TDR).

While the website remained down, several users took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction. One user commented, “Using the IRCTC app daily feels like running a marathon in slow motion, except the finish line is a ‘Session Expired’ message.” Another user criticized the system for allowing agents to secure Tatkal bookings in the first five minutes, making it “near impossible” for regular users to book tickets.

Some users even raised concerns over the frequency of such outages, questioning the need for daily maintenance. Despite the frustrations, the IRCTC website resumed normal operations after the maintenance window, allowing users to continue booking tickets.

IRCTC’s website and mobile app have long been the subject of complaints regarding slow performance, especially during peak hours when Tatkal bookings are in high demand. Although the maintenance was announced in advance, it did little to alleviate the growing dissatisfaction among users, many of whom have expressed hopes for improvements to the system.

With the online platform being integral to millions of passengers booking train tickets across India, such technical glitches highlight the continued challenges faced by the digital infrastructure behind IRCTC’s services.
