On Friday, Air India confirmed that regulatory clearances were secured for a relief flight from Mumbai to Krasnoyarsk International Airport. The relief flight is scheduled to depart Mumbai at 11:00 AM IST and will transport the stranded passengers out of Krasnoyarsk later in the day.
The Indian Embassy in Moscow has mobilized a team to assist those affected. According to the embassy, three senior officials and an interpreter are on-site in Krasnoyarsk to help passengers. The team is coordinating with local airport and security authorities, as well as representatives from the Russian Foreign Ministry, to provide support until the replacement plane arrives.
Air India stated that passengers, who were initially required to remain in the terminal due to visa restrictions, are now receiving necessary amenities. Food and beverages, previously unavailable due to the evening closure, have been made accessible to ensure passengers are well taken care of. Additionally, efforts are underway to facilitate the movement of passengers to hotels.
The airline also mentioned that local support is assisting passengers while awaiting the arrival of the replacement flight. Indian consulate representatives from Moscow traveled overnight to collaborate with Russian authorities and arrange accommodation for the travelers.
This incident follows a similar event last year when an Air India flight on the same route was diverted to the remote town of Magadan in Russia due to technical issues. Passengers were accommodated in a school for two days before continuing their journey.
