Anip Patel, an Indian-American CEO of CaPatel Investments, took to TikTok to share his “nightmare” experience on a $6,300 business class seat during a non-stop Air India flight from New Delhi to Chicago. Patel described his ordeal as the “worst first-class cabin” he had ever encountered, expressing frustration with the deteriorating state of the plane’s amenities and services.
In the video, Patel showcased several issues he faced during the 15-hour flight. “Everything was broken or worn out. There was tape on the walls, stains on the seats, and the compartments were falling apart,” he said. The CEO also highlighted problems with the provided amenities, including dirty towels, tangled headphones, and a limited food menu. “They didn’t even have tablecloths, and when they finally brought one, it was after the meal had already been served,” Patel complained.
Despite being in first class, Patel mentioned that the entertainment system was non-functional for the entire flight and that the Wi-Fi was also unavailable. He described the overall service as “next-level disappointing,” stating that only the soup served during the flight was enjoyable. “This was the only good thing on the entire trip,” he remarked.
This incident comes at a time when Air India has announced a $400 million refurbishment program aimed at upgrading 67 of its aircraft to enhance customer experience. However, Patel’s account casts doubt on the progress of these improvements. He questioned whether the promise of top-tier service was being fulfilled.
The Tata-owned airline, which has launched a revamp starting with 27 Airbus A320neo planes and followed by 40 Boeing aircraft, is striving to become a world-class airline. But Patel’s experience suggests the airline still has a long way to go in meeting passenger expectations, especially in its premium cabins.
The video has gained traction on social media, where many users expressed their frustration and shared their own negative experiences with Air India. The airline has yet to respond publicly to Patel’s complaints.
