In a noteworthy recognition of entrepreneurial excellence and innovation, Young Liu, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn, has been honored with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award. With a career spanning over four decades, Liu has played a pivotal role in shaping the technology landscape.

Young Liu’s entrepreneurial journey includes the founding of three successful companies. In 1988, he established Young Micro Systems, a motherboard company. Following that, in 1995, he ventured into the realm of IC design, focusing on the PC chipset. Subsequently, in 1997, he founded ITE Tech company, ITeX, showcasing his commitment to driving technological advancements.

Foxconn, headquartered in Taiwan, is globally renowned as the world’s largest contract manufacturer, responsible for assembling approximately 70% of iPhones. Notably, the company has been strategically diversifying its production away from China, responding to the challenges posed by COVID-19 disruptions and geopolitical tensions.

The technology giant has made substantial investments in India, expanding its footprint in the country’s manufacturing landscape. Over the past year, Foxconn has significantly bolstered its presence in southern India, reflecting a commitment to capitalize on the burgeoning opportunities in the Indian market.

Young Liu has been vocal about India’s potential as a key player in the global electronics manufacturing sector. Last year, he expressed optimism about India’s role in the future of manufacturing, citing the country’s conducive reforms and policies that have created substantial opportunities for the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

The Padma awards, among the highest civilian honors in India, were announced on the eve of Republic Day. This year, President approved 132 Padma awards across various fields, encompassing art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Young Liu’s Padma Bhushan accolade not only recognizes his individual achievements but also underscores the broader significance of global leaders acknowledging and contributing to India’s evolving technological landscape.
