In a reconstruction video shared by ‘You can see ATC’ on YouTube, the aircraft’s ascent, communication with ATC, and eventual return to Toronto amid lightning and showers are depicted. The ATC quickly cleared Runway 23 for the distressed aircraft’s emergency landing, with fire vehicles on standby to provide assistance.
Air Canada released a statement attributing the engine fire to a stalled compressor. Despite the tense moments, the aircraft landed normally and taxied to the gate under the watchful eye of first responder vehicles as a precautionary measure.
