Vodafone Idea (Vi) has joined its competitors in increasing mobile service rates, announcing a tariff hike set to take effect from July 4. This move comes shortly after Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel revealed their plans to raise prices, signaling a widespread adjustment in the telecom sector.
According to a statement released by Vodafone Idea, the telecom operator will implement a tariff increase ranging from 11% to 24% across its mobile plans. The adjustments include raising the entry-level plan to ₹199 from ₹179, marking an 11% rise. Similarly, a popular 84-day validity plan with 1.5 GB data per day will now cost ₹859, up from ₹719 previously, reflecting a 19.5% increase. Additionally, the annual unlimited plan has been revised upwards by approximately 21%, now priced at ₹3,499 compared to ₹2,899 earlier. However, Vi has opted not to change its 365-day validity plan, which offers 24 GB of data for ₹1,799.
Vi justified the tariff hike as part of its commitment to providing consumers with straightforward and comprehensive plans. The company emphasized its support for entry-level users by keeping nominal changes in those plans, while progressively adjusting higher usage plans.
The telecom operator also announced plans for significant investments in enhancing the 4G experience and launching 5G services in the coming quarters, underscoring its strategy to stay competitive in India’s rapidly evolving telecom market.
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel had previously announced increases in mobile service rates effective from July 3, setting the stage for Vi’s tariff adjustment. The moves by all three major telecom players indicate a trend towards stabilizing pricing structures amidst ongoing operational challenges and the need for substantial investments in network infrastructure and technology upgrades.
As Vodafone Idea prepares to implement its tariff adjustments from July 4, consumers can expect changes in their mobile service bills across various plans. The telecom industry’s focus on enhancing service quality and preparing for future technologies like 5G remains pivotal amidst these pricing adjustments.
