In an unexpected turn of events, siblings Jainam and Jivika Jain, based in Dubai, have offered to hand over the controversial JioHotstar domain to Reliance Industries free of charge. In an unexpected turn of events, siblings Jainam and Jivika Jain, based in Dubai, have offered to hand over the controversial JioHotstar domain to Reliance Industries free of charge. The domain, which they had acquired from a Delhi-based app developer, has sparked a wave of attention and controversy after its initial sale, but now the siblings are offering it to Mukesh Ambani’s company without expecting any compensation.
The offer comes after Jainam (13) and Jivika (10) updated their statement on the website jiohotstar.com. The siblings clarified that while they had initially purchased the domain to assist the app developer, they now believe it would be best for Reliance to own it, given the ongoing discussions surrounding the JioCinema and Hotstar merger.
“We now think it might be best for Team Reliance to have this domain, if they want it,” said the Jain siblings in their statement. They emphasized that their decision to offer the domain to Reliance was made entirely on their own, without any pressure or influence from external parties. The siblings added that no one from Reliance or any legal team had contacted them in relation to the domain.
Jainam and Jivika made it clear that their primary intent was never to profit from the domain but to support the original app developer. They explained that while they received numerous offers to purchase the domain at high prices, their only goal was to assist and help others through their “seva” (service) journey. “We never expected this attention, nor did we mean to cause any controversy,” they stated.
The controversy surrounding the JioHotstar domain began when the app developer, who had initially purchased the domain, attempted to sell it to Reliance for ₹1 crore. The developer claimed that the domain, which was linked to rumors of a merger between Jio Cinema and Hotstar, could be valuable once the merger went through. The developer expressed that the money from the sale would help fund his executive MBA course at Cambridge University. However, Reliance declined the offer, and the developer subsequently sold the domain to the Dubai siblings.
In their recent statement, Jainam and Jivika also reiterated that the domain was not for sale. If Reliance is interested in acquiring it, the siblings are prepared to handle the transfer process smoothly. “If they are not interested, that’s okay too. We will continue to share updates about our journey and work,” they added.
The domain dispute and the siblings’ generous offer have drawn significant attention, raising questions about intellectual property, business practices, and the ethical considerations of domain acquisitions. The Jain siblings have expressed that their efforts are grounded in a desire to help others, and their actions have now shifted the focus away from controversy to goodwill.
