Pizza Hut in China has stirred up the internet with a bold and unconventional menu item—a pizza topped with a deep-fried bullfrog. The limited-edition pizza features a thick crust, a red sauce base, a bed of parsley, and a whole bullfrog as its centerpiece, creating a striking and controversial visual.

The frog, deep-fried and placed whole atop the pizza, is complemented by two halves of hard-boiled eggs that serve as “eyes,” adorned with black olives. The unusual offering has captured the attention of food lovers and online communities alike, with many expressing surprise, confusion, and even outrage.

David Henke, a global food trend expert, shared a photo of the pizza on X (formerly Twitter), drawing attention to the novelty. “In proof that other countries/cultures prefer different types of proteins, Pizza Hut is offering a pizza topped with a frog for a limited time in China—and the frog is trending,” Henke wrote.

The pizza, named “Goblin Pizza,” is reportedly inspired by characters from the popular role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. According to the Maeil Business Newspaper, the pizza was created as a limited-time collaboration between Pizza Hut and the game franchise. However, the availability of the pizza and its specific details remain unclear, as the company has not provided more information on its official website.

The concept of a deep-fried frog topping has sparked a wide range of reactions online. While some food enthusiasts have expressed curiosity, others have voiced their disapproval. One Reddit user labeled the pizza as “Pure blasphemy,” while another commenter joked, “You can ribbet this right into the garbage.” Some critics questioned the combination of ingredients, with one person asking, “Why ruin a pizza like that?”

On the other hand, a more sympathetic commenter suggested that the frog leg meat, shredded and incorporated into the pizza, might be a more palatable alternative. Despite the controversy, some expressed openness to trying the dish, acknowledging the appeal of fried frog legs as a delicacy in certain cuisines.

Whether or not this unique offering will find a lasting place in Pizza Hut’s menu remains to be seen. However, for now, the “Goblin Pizza” continues to spark conversation and curiosity, as it challenges traditional pizza toppings and introduces a new and exotic protein to the mix.
