Aggarwal disclosed this development on the inaugural day of the third Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet held in Chennai. He highlighted that Ola Electric would become the pioneering entity to produce lithium-ion cells domestically in India, heralding a crucial advancement in the nation’s shift towards EV adoption.
Quoted by Deccan Herald, Aggarwal emphasized the Gigafactory’s strategic significance in the EV ecosystem, affirming plans to employ a workforce of 25,000 once the facility reaches full operational capacity.
The Gigafactory, envisioned as India’s largest cell factory and among the world’s foremost facilities of its kind, commenced construction with an initial 100 MW capacity. Upon activation, spanning 115 acres, the plant will initially function at a 5GWh capacity, progressively expanding to achieve a remarkable 100 GWh capacity in successive phases.
Ola Electric’s Gigafactory holds ambitious plans to upscale the production of its proprietary 4680 cells, pivotal components integral to bolstering the production of electric vehicles. This strategic move aligns with India’s aggressive pursuit of a sustainable and technologically advanced future in the EV domain.
