In response to the allegations, Aggarwal dismissed them as “opportunistic,” asserting that such claims are part of a broader trend of exploiting legal situations for personal gain. He emphasized that Ola Electric, which is gearing up for its initial public offering (IPO), is not involved in the mapping business and is ready to address the issue appropriately.
Ola Electric’s IPO is set to open for subscription on August 2, with shares priced between ₹72-76 each. Investors will be able to apply in lots of 195 equity shares. The IPO will close on August 6, with shares expected to be listed on the BSE and NSE by August 9.
In addition to addressing the allegations, Aggarwal discussed Ola Electric’s strategic focus. He mentioned that while the company is currently concentrating on two-wheeler manufacturing, including future plans for motorbikes, their primary goal is to develop a comprehensive ecosystem for electric vehicle production. Aggarwal did not confirm or deny any potential plans to pause car production but emphasized the company’s commitment to its core priorities.
MapMyIndia’s notice to Ola claimed that Ola Maps was developed by illegally accessing and reverse-engineering MapMyIndia’s data, which was explicitly forbidden in their licensing agreement from June 2021. The mapping service provider alleged that Ola’s actions constituted a breach of their agreement, leading to the current dispute.
An Ola Electric spokesperson refuted the allegations, labeling them as “false, malicious, and misleading,” and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ethical business practices. Ola Electric plans to respond to the notice in due course.
