In a heartwarming display of national pride and anticipation for India’s growing role in global manufacturing, renowned industrialist Anand Mahindra recently shared a personal experience involving his India-made iPhone 15. Mahindra’s story emerged as Google, following in the footsteps of tech giants Apple and Samsung, unveiled its plans to begin manufacturing Pixel smartphones in India, with the latest model set to debut in 2024.

The story began when Mahindra came across a post by a page called Indian Tech and Infra announcing Google’s intention to initiate Pixel smartphone production in India. Encouraged by this news, he took to social media to recount a special moment he experienced during a visit to a Verizon store in the United States.

“I recently was in a Verizon store in the U.S to get a local sim and proudly informed the salesperson that my iPhone 15 was made in India. It was a particular pleasure to see his raised eyebrows!” Mahindra recounted in his post. He also mentioned that he owns a Google Pixel and intends to switch to the India-made version when it’s released. In his own words, “So I’ll be able to tell them my Pixel is made in India too… But there probably won’t be any raised eyebrows at that time because by then, India will have been globally acknowledged as a manufacturing powerhouse.”

Mahindra’s post has garnered significant attention, amassing more than 1.3 million views and over 21,000 likes within just a few hours of being shared. Social media users widely praised his sentiments and celebrated India’s rise as a manufacturing powerhouse.

Reactions from social media users were enthusiastic and appreciative. One user commended Mahindra, stating, “That’s an impressive moment to share! It’s exciting to witness the rise of India as a manufacturing powerhouse, and the choice to support locally-made products is commendable.” Another expressed a similar sentiment, saying, “It’s interesting how the origin of your phone can spark conversations and highlight the growing reputation of India in the global manufacturing industry.”

Google’s announcement to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India marks a significant development, with the tech giant becoming the latest brand to shift production to the country. This move follows in the footsteps of industry leaders like Apple and Samsung, both of whom have already established assembly operations in India.

With such prominent figures as Anand Mahindra expressing their support for India’s manufacturing capabilities, and with major players like Google entering the Indian production landscape, the country’s reputation as a global manufacturing powerhouse is expected to continue to grow. As India takes significant strides in the world of manufacturing, consumers can look forward to more products bearing the prestigious “Made in India” label in the future.
