In a strategic move to further solidify its presence in the media landscape, Adani Enterprises, the flagship firm of billionaire Gautam Adani’s conglomerate, has secured a controlling stake in the prominent news agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS). The acquisition, announced on Saturday, marks the group’s concerted efforts to broaden its foothold in the media industry.

The Adani group confirmed its acquisition of a commanding 50.5% stake in IANS for a reported sum of ₹5,10,000 ($6,140). With this sizable investment, the conglomerate will assume complete operational and managerial control over the news agency, underlining its commitment to diversifying its business interests.

IANS, a notable name in the news industry, has showcased its resilience and influence, reporting a substantial revenue of over ₹118.6 million in the 2022/23 financial year. This acquisition strategically aligns with Adani’s overarching vision to strengthen its media portfolio, complementing its existing ventures in the sector.

This move follows the Adani group’s entrance into the media realm in March of the preceding year, marked by the acquisition of Quintillion Business Media. Quintillion operates the acclaimed business and financial news digital platform, BQ Prime, thereby initiating Adani’s foray into digital media spaces.

Later, in a significant development underscoring its commitment to diversification, the conglomerate made headlines in December 2022 by securing nearly 65% ownership of the prominent broadcaster NDTV. These strategic acquisitions underscore Adani’s commitment to expanding its media footprint and consolidating its position within the industry.

The acquisition of IANS signifies Adani’s concerted efforts to bolster its media holdings, leveraging the agency’s established credibility and expansive reach. With an eye on innovation and growth, the conglomerate aims to further its influence and impact within the media landscape, tapping into the ever-evolving preferences of audiences.

Adani Enterprises’ recent acquisitions within the media industry underline its strategic vision to diversify its business portfolio, emphasizing the conglomerate’s proactive approach to tapping into new sectors and enhancing its market presence. This move not only consolidates Adani’s position as a multifaceted conglomerate but also hints at a promising trajectory in the dynamic realm of media and communications.
