The bustling metropolis showed a penchant for the ever-popular chocolate cake, asserting its love for the sweet treat.

According to Swiggy’s blog post titled “How India Swiggy’d in 2023,” Bengaluru’s cake frenzy solidified its position as the ‘Cake Capital,’ reflecting the city’s insatiable appetite for indulgence. The post celebrated the city’s penchant for cakes, particularly the 8.5 million orders placed for the irresistible chocolate cake, depicting Bengaluru’s fervor for confectionary delights.

“Bangalore believed in having its cake and eating it too. With 8.5 million orders placed for everyone’s favorite chocolate cake, the city was honored as the ‘Cake Capital’,” the blog post proudly stated.

Amidst this sweet celebration, Valentine’s Day 2023 witnessed a remarkable surge in cake orders across India, with a staggering 271 cakes being ordered per minute, reflecting the romantic fervor and love for sweet indulgences.

Local cake enthusiasts in Bengaluru expressed their joy at the city’s newfound title. Yashaswini B, visibly delighted, commented, “I am not surprised as people are happier nowadays. This is the startup of happiness. So, It’s like joy and it is done by cakes.”

Another cake enthusiast, Harshita Shetty, professed her adoration for the classic chocolate flavor, echoing the city’s predominant choice.

Gautham, a cake show organizer, attributed Bengaluru’s cake craze to the city’s burgeoning baking community and the influx of new baking ventures. “Every alternate option on Swiggy is a baking guy or he is selling cakes. So, people love cakes. When there is growth in the business, obviously they love cakes,” Gautham remarked.

The Swiggy report, titled “How India Swiggy’d in 2023,” highlighted intriguing culinary trends nationwide. It revealed that biryani retained its dominance as the most-ordered dish for the eighth consecutive year, witnessing a staggering rate of 2.5 biryanis ordered per second. The savory delight continued to reign supreme, with Hyderabad leading the charge in biryani preferences.

During the India-Pakistan 2023 ODI World Cup, the love for biryani reached new heights, with Indians ordering 50 biryanis every minute. A family in Chandigarh fervently backed India during a nail-biting match by ordering a whopping 70 plates of biryani in one go.

Additionally, interesting anecdotes emerged, such as a Mumbai user placing a jaw-dropping order worth ₹42.3 lakh on the online delivery platform and the surge in orders for Gulab Jamuns surpassing Roshogollas during Durga Pujo, totaling over 7.7 million orders.
