Global Exposure Meets Cultural Pride: Ashoka Students Represent India at the United Nations in Vienna
A delegation of 20 Nashik students from Ashoka Group of School along with their mentors visit to the Austrian Parliament in Vienna

In a unique blend of global learning and cultural diplomacy, a delegation of 20 students from the Ashoka Group of Schools, Nashik, embarked on a week-long educational tour to Vienna, Austria—experiencing international institutions, policy-making platforms, and cross-cultural exchanges in an unforgettable journey.
The highlight of the tour was a prestigious visit to the United Nations Office at Vienna and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where students engaged with key global themes such as sustainability, peace, and gender equality. Participating in a dedicated UN Symposium, they showcased their insights on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5, 8, 13, and 16—focusing on gender equality, decent work, climate action, and peace & justice. Their compelling presentations reflected clarity, confidence, and deep awareness of contemporary global challenges.
The session was attended by Ms. Nidhi Dhiman, First Secretary and Commercial Representative from the Indian Embassy in Austria, who praised the students’ articulate delivery and commended their role in positively representing India on an international platform.
Blending tradition with diplomacy, the session closed with a Kathak performance by the students—an elegant tribute to India’s classical arts, performed in the heart of Europe’s diplomatic arena.
The delegation also had the honour of meeting Her Excellency Herta Margarete, Princess of Tuscany, along with members of the historic Habsburg Royal Family. The dignitaries expressed appreciation for the cultural performance and awarded the students with honorary badges, acknowledging their efforts in promoting global harmony through cultural exchange.
Beyond the UN, the students engaged in critical learning experiences at key institutions including the Ban Ki Moon Centre, where they participated in an expert-led workshop on Green Jobs and sustainable development. Discussions encouraged students to view sustainability not just as a moral imperative but as a promising field for future careers.
Adding to this rich itinerary was a rare opportunity to explore the Austrian Parliament, where the delegation gained insights into Austria’s democratic framework and legislative processes. This visit offered a comparative understanding of governance models and helped students reflect on how nations shape inclusive policies.
At the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, one of the most respected institutions in international relations, students participated in an interactive session with the Director. They discussed India’s evolving role in BRICS, the future of diplomacy, and challenges in global cooperation—broadening their understanding of international affairs and policymaking.
Outside the corridors of diplomacy, the students immersed themselves in Vienna’s cultural tapestry through visits to historical landmarks such as the Vienna Opera House, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the House of Austrian History, and the medieval Kreuzenstein Castle. Each stop brought history alive, offering context to Europe’s socio-political evolution and architectural legacy.
The tour concluded with the students participating in the Lazarus Union Investiture and Gala Dinner, where they performed a final Kathak piece, once again receiving accolades and international honours for their graceful representation of Indian tradition.
The educational tour was spearheaded by Dr. Dinesh Sabnis (AGM – Sports and Activities), with guidance from mentors Ms. Meghana Joshi (Headmistress – Secondary Section) and Ms. Mrudula Tare (Kathak Dance Educator), who ensured a seamless blend of academic depth, cultural engagement, and student safety.
Reflecting on the tour, Ms. Astha Kataria, Managing Trustee of Ashoka Group of Schools, remarked:
“We’re committed to nurturing not just academic excellence but socially conscious global citizens. This tour gave our students the opportunity to learn diplomacy, appreciate diversity, and develop leadership values rooted in both knowledge and culture.”
As they return home, these young ambassadors carry more than memories—they return with a sharpened world view, cross-cultural friendships, and the confidence to take on tomorrow’s global challenges.
