In the wake of Microsoft’s latest round of mass layoffs, which affected nearly 6,000 employees — about 3% of its global workforce — one former employee has gone viral on LinkedIn for sharing her deeply personal experience of being let go during a sudden, last-minute meeting.

The woman, who says she served as a senior program manager at Microsoft for over seven years, detailed the moment she realized her time at the company had come to an unexpected end. “POV: I was laid off today from MSFT,” she began. “I had a last-minute meeting added to my calendar by my skip [manager’s manager] and was spiraling trying to figure out the agenda — FY26 priorities? Reorg?” she recalled. “Once an unfamiliar face joined the call, I quickly realized I too was a part of the Microsoft layoffs.”

The emotional post quickly garnered attention as she reflected on her journey at the tech giant. “My seven-year journey at Microsoft has been amazing,” she wrote, adding that she now plans to take a few days to think about her next steps. She also updated her status to “Open to Work,” signaling her availability for new opportunities.

The employee also offered support to her fellow laid-off colleagues: “I know this is not the best time to unexpectedly enter the job market, but I am sending positive thoughts to all MSFTies impacted as well. We got this.”

Her post received an outpouring of support. One commenter offered a referral for Amazon roles, while others shared encouraging words like “You got this!” and “Next chapter loading… wishing you all the success you can stand.”

According to the Associated Press, Microsoft stated that the layoffs are happening “across all levels, teams and geographies,” with a particular focus on “reducing the number of managers.” Notices reportedly began going out on Tuesday.

This is the company’s most significant job cut since 2023 and reflects broader restructuring efforts in the tech industry as companies recalibrate for the future amid economic uncertainty and strategic shifts.
