“UP Resident Penalized by Noida Police for Driving Car Without Helmet”

A man from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, has been fined ₹1,000 by Noida police for allegedly driving his car without a helmet, despite claiming he has never been to Gautam Buddh Nagar in his vehicle.

Tushar Saxena, the car owner, initially dismissed a text message informing him of the fine as a mistake. However, he was later contacted through email and another message, prompting him to investigate the issue further. Saxena, who lives approximately 200 kilometers away from Noida, was informed by the traffic police that the fine was issued for not wearing a helmet while driving.

According to police records, the challan was issued on November 9, 2023. Saxena, who purchased his car in March of the previous year and registered it in Rampur, argues that he has never driven his vehicle to the NCR region and is unaware of any rule requiring helmet use in cars.

“I have never driven my car to the NCR area, and if there is a rule mandating helmets inside cars, the authorities should provide this information in writing,” Saxena said. He has appealed to the Noida traffic police to review the case and revoke the fine.

This situation mirrors a similar case in Jhansi, where Bahadur Singh Parihar was fined ₹1,000 for not wearing a helmet while driving his Audi. Parihar, a resident of Jhansi’s Nandu colony, has also requested that the matter be reviewed, though he was informed that action would be taken after the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Noida traffic police have advised Saxena that failure to pay the fine could result in a court appearance. The case highlights ongoing confusion and concerns about traffic regulations and enforcement.
