Vistara, the airline jointly owned by Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, has encountered a series of flight delays and cancellations in recent days, citing operational reasons as the cause. The airline acknowledged the disruptions and assured customers that efforts are underway to stabilize the situation.
A spokesperson for Vistara stated, “We confirm that we have had a number of flight cancellations and unavoidable delays in the last few days due to various operational reasons.” The airline’s teams are working tirelessly to address the issues and minimize inconvenience for passengers.
However, irate passengers took to social media platforms to express their frustration over the extended delays. Complaints ranged from long wait times to last-minute cancellations, prompting concerns about transparency and customer service standards.
Vignesh Murali, one of the affected passengers, vented on social media about a more than 5-hour delay on a Vistara flight from Bombay to Chennai, describing the experience as “absolutely pathetic.” Similar sentiments were echoed by others, with questions raised about the reasons behind the disruptions and the airline’s communication with its customers.
Prominent personalities such as TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Aarin Capital Partners, also voiced their concerns, urging Vistara to provide more transparency and restore credibility amidst the growing dissatisfaction among passengers.
This is not the first time Vistara has faced operational challenges. In early March, flight operations were impacted at Delhi and Mumbai airports due to the non-availability of pilots, highlighting ongoing issues within the airline’s operations.
Vistara’s situation is particularly significant as the airline is in the process of merging with Air India following its privatization, with Singapore Airlines acquiring a 25.1% stake in the once state-controlled carrier. The recent disruptions raise questions about the airline’s ability to manage its operations effectively amidst industry consolidation and increased competition.
As Vistara works to resolve the current challenges, passengers and industry observers will be watching closely to see how the airline addresses customer concerns and improves its operational efficiency in the future.
