Delhi Police arrested two sharp-shooters, Bilal Ansari (22) and Shuheb Qureshi (21), linked to the Kaushal Chaudhary-Bambiha gang, for opening fire at a businessman’s residence in North West Delhi’s Rani Bagh. The incident, which took place three days before their arrest, was allegedly part of an extortion attempt demanding ₹15 crore from the businessman. The shooters, both from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, were apprehended during a shootout on Tuesday.
The accused left a slip at the scene naming the “Kaushal Chaudhary – Pawan Shokeen – Bambiha Gang,” a gang affiliated with extortion and violence in the Delhi-NCR region. During questioning, the shooters revealed that the firing was ordered by Pawan Shokeen, a known gangster now believed to be operating from the United States after fleeing India.
Details of the Shooting
According to police, Shokeen, previously known as an arms supplier in Delhi, met Bilal while he was working in a factory in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh. Shokeen reportedly asked Bilal to conduct a reconnaissance of the businessman’s residence, promising payment for the job. Bilal then enlisted Shuheb’s help for the shooting, whom he met through a mutual acquaintance connected to Shokeen. The duo arrived on a motorbike, with Shuheb driving and Bilal firing multiple rounds at the target’s residence in Rani Bagh.
Rise of Extortion Incidents in Delhi
Delhi has seen a troubling rise in extortion attempts and related shootings over the past months. Last month alone, three high-profile shooting incidents were linked to extortion in the capital. In one instance, a car showroom called “Car Street Mini” in Naraina was targeted, where three assailants fired 20 rounds, leaving behind a slip reading “Bhau Gang, Since 2020.” The reference was seen as a nod to wanted gangster Himanshu Bhau, who reportedly fled to Portugal in 2022 after claiming responsibility for a Delhi murder.
Another incident occurred in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, where the “Bhau Gang” allegedly demanded ₹5 crore from the owners of “Fusion Cars.” A third shooting was reported in Mahipalpur, where a bike-riding shooter fired several rounds at Hotel Impress, shattering its glass gate.
Police Crackdown and Investigation
Delhi Police have ramped up efforts to address the alarming trend of extortion-based violence, which has impacted both business and public safety in the city. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the cross-border network of these gangs, especially focusing on those linked to international fugitives like Shokeen and Bhau, who are suspected to operate remotely through associates in India. The police have assured the public that extensive measures are in place to combat organized crime and prevent similar incidents in the future.
