Vistara Airlines has announced that it will cease operations under its brand name on November 11, 2024, marking the end of its era as an independent airline. Starting November 12, Vistara’s operations will be fully integrated into Air India as part of a merger process that began nearly two years ago.

From September 3, 2024, passengers will no longer be able to book flights with Vistara for travel beyond November 11. Instead, all future bookings will be redirected to Air India’s booking platforms. The decision to cease Vistara’s operations follows the merger approval by the Indian government, which aims to consolidate airline operations and enhance passenger experience.

The merger brings together Vistara, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, with Air India, which is also owned by the Tata Group. Singapore Airlines will retain a 25.1 percent stake in the newly unified Air India, following the approval for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Air India.

“Vistara will continue to accept bookings and operate flights as usual until November 11, 2024,” the airline stated. From November 12, all Vistara aircraft and crew will be incorporated into Air India’s operations. The routes previously served by Vistara will be absorbed into Air India’s extensive network.

The merger, first announced in November 2022, is designed to streamline airline operations and improve service quality. Air India’s CEO and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, emphasized the focus on ensuring a smooth transition for passengers and staff. “Our teams have been working diligently to ensure that the transition of aircraft, flying crew, ground staff, and valued customers to the new Air India is as seamless as possible,” Wilson said.

For passengers with existing bookings on Vistara flights after November 12, the transition will be handled automatically. While flight numbers will be updated to reflect Air India’s operations, schedules, aircraft, and crews are expected to remain largely unchanged until early 2025. The airlines have prepared a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to assist passengers during this transition period.

As Vistara’s final flights approach, the airline is focused on maintaining its service standards and ensuring that the merger integrates smoothly with Air India’s operations, aiming to enhance the overall travel experience for its customers.
