“Swiggy Responds to User Complaints, Attributes Extra Charges to Technical Bug”
Swiggy, the popular food delivery platform, responds to user complaints regarding extra charges on orders, clarifying that it was a technical bug. The company assures customers that they were only charged the correct amount at the time of order placement.

In recent days, social media has been abuzz with complaints from several users who claimed that Swiggy, the renowned online food delivery platform, was charging an additional amount by rounding off the total bill value to the nearest whole number and adding an extra ₹3 to the order. Swiggy has now addressed these concerns, attributing the issue to a technical glitch and assuring customers that they were charged the accurate amount when placing their orders.
The controversy first emerged when a user with the handle @kingslyj took to social media to highlight that all of his Swiggy transactions were rounded to whole numbers, whereas other card transactions still included fractional amounts. In his post, he stated, “Dug a bit and discovered @Swiggy used to charge the exact amount down to the paisa once upon a time but have since started salami slicing.” He further shared a screenshot showcasing the order value and the additional charges imposed by the platform, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the practice.
“And it’s not Swiggy just stealing a few extra paisa per order. Eg. 626.57+35.24+2.00+28.00-52.99+33.09 = 671.91 Instead of adding 9 paisa to round up to the whole rupee, @Swiggy charges Rs.3.09 extra instead. Absolutely no justification for this,” he added, questioning the transparency of the extra charges.
Deepak Shenoy, Founder and CEO of Capital Mind, shared a similar experience on the platform, calling it “actual fraud.” He raised concerns about Swiggy adding ₹3 extra to the total bill, implying that this might not be a random error but a deliberate act to generate additional revenue.
However, Swiggy responded to the concerns raised by Mr. Shenoy and others, explaining that the discrepancy in order history and the actual paid value was due to a technical bug, which their teams had promptly fixed. They clarified that while some users may have seen incorrect discount amounts in their order history, they had actually paid the correct amount during checkout.
Swiggy’s response sought to alleviate any concerns, reassuring customers that they were not charged any extra amount beyond what was rightfully due. The platform encouraged users to continue ordering their favorite food with confidence.
This clarification by Swiggy brings relief to users who had raised questions about the additional charges, and it highlights the importance of addressing customer concerns promptly and transparently in the digital age.
