PM Modi Unveils ₹13,480 Crore Development Projects in Bihar’s Madhubani, Boosts Infrastructure and Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a visit to Madhubani on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, launched and laid foundation stones for infrastructure and public service projects worth over ₹13,480 crore. The initiatives span energy, railways, housing, and rural development, aiming to significantly bolster the socio-economic fabric of Bihar.

Modi reached the venue around 11:45 am and took part in the National Panchayati Raj Day programme. He also presented national awards to top-performing gram panchayats, recognising their contributions to grassroots governance.

Key Highlights of the Visit:

Energy Sector Boost
The Prime Minister inaugurated new power projects worth ₹5,030 crore and laid the foundation for others worth ₹1,170 crore. These fall under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, aimed at strengthening electricity distribution infrastructure across Bihar.

LPG Bottling Plant
A major highlight of the development package is a ₹340 crore LPG bottling plant in Hathua, Gopalganj district. Equipped with a rail unloading facility, the plant is expected to streamline LPG logistics and supply across the region.

Rail Infrastructure Overhaul
PM Modi flagged off several key train services, including:

  • Amrit Bharat Express between Saharsa and Mumbai
  • Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Jaynagar and Patna
  • New trains on Pipra–Saharsa and Saharsa–Samastipur routes

Other notable rail projects include the inauguration of the Supaul–Pipra and Hasanpur–Bithan lines, two-lane rail overbridges in Chapra and Bagaha, and the completed Khagaria–Alauli line. These upgrades are expected to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother movement of people and goods.

Support to Self-Help Groups
Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), benefits amounting to ₹930 crore were announced for over 2 lakh self-help groups, reinforcing efforts toward women-led economic empowerment and rural entrepreneurship.

Affordable Housing Drive
The Prime Minister distributed approval letters to 15 lakh new beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) and released instalments for 10 lakh ongoing projects. Additionally, keys to new homes were handed over to over 1 lakh rural and 54,000 urban beneficiaries in Bihar.

Expansion of Namo Bharat Rapid Rail
Following its first successful deployment on the Bhuj-Ahmedabad route, the second batch of India’s indigenous Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will now operate between Jaynagar and Patna. The fully air-conditioned train, featuring 18 coaches and seating for over 2,000 passengers, does not require reservations.

Tight Security Amid Recent Terror Threats
Though the visit was development-focused, tight security arrangements were in place across Bihar, especially along the India–Nepal border. These precautions come in the wake of a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Public places, including railway stations and markets, saw increased surveillance and security checks.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to transforming Bihar’s infrastructure and uplifting rural communities through integrated and sustainable development.
